Thermaltake Frio CPU Cooler Reviews

Fri 2010-07-30 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
HardwareLogic and techPowerUp have posted a review of the Thermaltake Frio, a sleek enthusiast-oriented red & black CPU cooler.

Let's see what they had to say:

  • HardwareLogic:

"The Frio easily lives up to its name by keeping our system's i7 860 downright chilly throughout all of our testing. At stock speeds, it handily matches the competition while being absolutely silent. When we overclock our processor, we see the Frio really shine. It bested the H50 by as much as 20C. Offering this level of performance, it's not hard to see why Thermaltake has been a top tier name in cooling for the past 10 years.

Even though it has the looks, styling, and performance to match, it still leaves the proverbial tooth paste lid on the bathroom sink. While the issue with the fan controller is a minor one, its one that didn't need to happen. This is especially true for a $60 (Newegg Link, Amazon Link) cooler aimed at the high end of the market. Hopefully this was an isolated case. Is this enough to change our recommendation? Absolutely not!"

  • techPowerUp:

"Thermaltake's Frio overall is an excellent cooler. The price is well within reason even for someone on a tight budget. It includes mounting hardware for use on any modern CPU socket including both AMD and Intel. With its unique new design coupled with five massive 8 mm heatpipes and two high CFM 120 mm fans the Frio performs just as good as it looks. As with past offerings from Thermaltake, both fans have separate speed adjustment knobs for fine tuning a balance between performance and noise levels to cater to any user's liking.

In the end, Thermaltakes Frio has surpassed my expectations. It performs on par with similar coolers from other manufacturers and beats many of them in my testing. If you are looking for an excellent performing cooler with looks to match, Frio is one to consider."

This heatsink performs very well and is relatively affordable for what you get. This also seems like the perfect CPU cooler to mount on a red & black ASUS Republic of Gamers motherboard.
