Senior Software Developer - 3DMark

Based in Espoo, Finland | Posted September 1, 2014

PCs are on the verge of a generational leap to 4k gaming. Steam OS could be the tipping point for Linux in the living room. And the reality of console quality graphics on mobile devices is just around the corner.

No doubt these are exciting times, yet the more choices we have, the harder it can be to choose. We make 3DMark, the world's most popular performance benchmark. Millions of gamers look to 3DMark to test and compare the latest hardware, and to make better buying decisions based on our accurate, impartial comparisons.

We are looking for a talented developer to join our expert 3DMark team in a full-time, permanent position. You will create the engines that power the next generation of 3DMark tests and help our artists to create stunning, real-time visual effects.

You will be working at the leading edge of new graphics technology. Thanks to our partnerships with world-class companies you will be coding for new APIs and platforms long before they are available to the public.

Those same partnerships mean that the top engineers from AMD, Intel, Microsoft, and NVIDIA will be scrutinising every line of your code. And rightly so, since the majority of the world's specialist hardware press use 3DMark to rate the performance of the latest graphics cards, processors, smartphones and tablets.

We take benchmarking seriously, but our workplace is friendly and casual. You'll work with equally talented programmers, artists, designers and engineers who will inspire and motivate you.

Programming is creative work so we give you the flexibility to choose the hours that bring out your best. We work in small, self-managed teams that control their own tasks. You'll enjoy a great deal of autonomy and responsibility while making a significant and visible contribution to our software.

You've been a professional programmer for five or more years, with an emphasis on graphics programming. Whether you're coming to us from game development, visual applications, the demoscene or elsewhere, you are motivated by the thrill of turning lines of code into something beautiful.

You must be hungry to seek out new and interesting things, keeping up with new techniques in graphics and coding in general. You love to share your knowledge to inspire those around you. You enjoy tackling new languages and platforms and adapt quickly when a problem calls for new skills.

You should also have an M.Sc. in Computer Science or a related field and good written and spoken English.

We strive to balance energy and rest, work and home. We have height-adjustable, standing desks, for those that want them. There's a gym for working out and in-house massage for winding down. And for after hours relaxing, we're only a short walk from the award-winning Gallows Bird pub with its wide selection of real ales.

This is a rare chance to join a successful Finnish company that is number one in its field. Since 1998, 3DMark has been wowing gamers with incredible real-time graphics. Apply now and wow us with your skills and enthusiasm.

Senior 3D Artist

Based in Espoo, Finland | Posted September 1, 2014

Tell us if this sounds familiar. You've loved video games since you were little. Every year you wondered how the graphics could possibly get any better? You grew up, learned new skills, and trained as an artist. Your best day ever? When you landed a job that combined your passion for games with your talent as an artist.

But then it all went a bit wrong. Instead of creating fantastic, original, new worlds, you've spent the last few years drawing sprites and sculpting low poly models for mobile games.

We're here to tell you that there is hope! Our mission is to open eyes, drop jaws, and make players shout, "Why can't all games look this good?"

Futuremark is looking for a senior 3D Artist with exceptional creativity and drive to join our team. You may know us as the creators of 3DMark, the world's most popular graphical benchmark for gamers.

Futuremark develops benchmarks for testing the performance of the technology you depend on every day. As a 3D Artist at Futuremark, you will design and create new benchmark scenes to test the performance limits of the latest graphics cards, smartphones and tablets.

Together with our programmers, you'll use the latest techniques in real-time rendering to bring your ideas to life. Thanks to our partnerships with world-class companies you will be creating art for new APIs and platforms long before they are available to the public.

DirectX 12? We're already working with that. OpenGL ES 3.1? Yep, that too. Mantle and Metal? Of course! We work at the leading edge of possibility, not the trailing edge of backwards-compatibility. PC or mobile, we're always designing for the future.

You've been a professional 3D Artist for five or more years, with an emphasis on game graphics production and real-time rendering. Whether you're coming to us from game development, visual arts, the demoscene or elsewhere, you are motivated by turning intangible ideas into beautiful art.

Your portfolio demonstrates your talent and imagination applied to modelling and texturing. Experience with character rigging, camera direction and animation is preferred.

You have a wealth of experience in creating art for real-time 3D game engines. Knowledge of high-end rendering techniques and physically-based rendering is desirable.

Using 3D packages, such as XSI, Maya, and Zbrush, is second nature to you. And you should be comfortable with 2D tools, such as Photoshop, as well.

You have good traditional skills in drawing, painting or sculpting and solid understanding of lighting, color, and composition. You should have good written and spoken English.

Yours is a creative role so we'll give you the flexibility to choose the hours that bring out your best. We work in small, self-managed teams that control their own tasks. You'll enjoy a great deal of autonomy and responsibility while making a significant and visible contribution to our benchmarks.

We take benchmarking seriously, but our workplace is friendly and casual. You'll work with equally talented artists, programmers and engineers who will inspire and motivate you.

We strive to balance energy and rest, work and home. We have height-adjustable, standing desks, for those that want them. There's a gym for working out and in-house massage for winding down. This is a rare chance to join a successful Finnish company that is number one in its field. Since 1998, 3DMark has been wowing gamers with incredible real-time graphics. Apply now and wow us with your portfolio.
